Bragazzi (Abbeydale Road)

DATE OF VISIT    Summer 2013

We called in for brunch, and did find it wasn’t immediately obvious what the protocol was regarding ordering. The Deli also does take away, so was pretty busy with lots of people milling about, but we eventually realised it was a case of find a seat and then place your order.

We placed our order – there was a wide range of sandwiches available, stacked up at the counter and nicely wrapped in brown paper, full of tasty fresh ingredients, with a decent vegetarian selection also. We had found a big settee, nice and relaxing, the service was very quick as the sandwiches were already made up.

OTHER NOTES    Order and pay at the counter. Laid- back atmosphere with some comfortable seating.

Mustard and Pickle (Woodseats)

DATE OF VISIT    Early 2015

Looking a bit further afield today for Saturday brunch, we braved the Woodseats traffic and found this small café / takeaway. Two / three indoor tables are available, we sat at one of the empty ones.

We received a friendly cheerful greeting from the man behind the counter (and the other customer) who as it turned out was on his own, so was doing a great job taking orders, cooking them and serving as well ! As a result a modest wait ensued, but nothing to spoil the visit, and he certainly didn’t seem fazed by it.

We ordered from the menu above the counter (large full English for him, veggie sausage and mushrooms for her), with two filter coffees.

Coffees arrived shortly, could have been a touch warmer but nice and strong, and just about still going to the end.

Food came after a short wait, hot and freshly cooked, the big breakfast is certainly that, whilst the veggie sandwich couldn’t be faulted, served in a lovely soft brown roll.

Friendly, attentive service.

OTHER NOTES    Pay on ordering, national newspapers and local magazines available to read.
